Yo, what’s up? Welcome back to another episode of the home-based business podcast. So today I want to dive deep into the power of environment and why it really matters for us to be aware of our environment, because at the end of the day, our environment really shapes who we are currently. It has shaped who we were in the past and it shapes who are we becoming in the future. And so we’re really just going to dive deep into all the different factors of our environment, what shapes our environment, and how to become aware if our environment is serving us or not, and how to change our environment, which I believe is the most important part about understanding our environment. Because once we can learn how to change our environment, we literally change our life period.

So I want to start by sharing a story on how my environment growing up, shaped the person I became. So right out of high school, I was thinking, okay, what do I want to do with my life? And I didn’t have people in my life who were entrepreneurs at the time. And so what I was being influenced by where the people who were in my life at the time, mostly everyone was following a normal career path where they were going to college, they’re getting degrees and they were starting out in the job market right. And so my first decision was okay, that’s what I’m going to do. You know, so immediately I was being influenced by those around me. Those were the people inside of my environment. So, my grandpa, he was a fireman and I had looked up to him and I was like, Hey, like, this could be a great career for me to go into like, let me pursue this. Like, let me pursue fire.

So there, again, my environment was influencing my decisions. And so that’s the path that I started early on, right out of high school I went to college, I got my degree for fire technology. I went through a fire Academy, I got my EMT license and I worked as an EMT working the 911 system for about six years. And so, because of the environment, I grew up in, I got into my work, which was pursuing a career in emergency medicine. And I was in this environment for a temporary period of my life. So here I am I’m an EMT. I’m surrounded by hundreds of other EMT. Mostly people who become EMTs want to further their career advancement. So they become either paramedics, nurses, firemen. And so that’s the path that I was on. I was even at a point where I was considering becoming a paramedic because most EMTs that I knew eventually became paramedics.

And the likelihood of me getting hired on to a fire department was higher if I was a paramedic. And so there, again, my environment was literally dictating my decisions during this period of my life. And so that’s really what shaped the first part of my professional career. My first career choice was to go fire it wasn’t until I realized I wasn’t a hundred percent satisfied with my career path that I decided to be open-minded about looking at other career paths, right? I pretty much accepted my environment at the time.  I wasn’t even really aware that my environment dictates who I became. And so it led me down this emotional path, you know, it wasn’t fully aligned with me and my character, my personality. And so I didn’t realize this at the time, looking back, I realize it, but that first career path was not for me.

And it was because of the environment that I grew up in that led me to that first career path. And if you listened to the trailer, I shared my story, how someone introduced to me about being able to build a home-based business, that person came into my environment and that opened up a door for me to go into a different environment, to learn from people who are building home-based businesses. And once I entered that new environment, my life completely transformed. And what happened for me at the age of 22, which was eight years ago is I changed my environment. I made a conscious decision to change my environment so I could change the direction that my life was going in. So that’s what happened to me. I wanted to share that story with you guys. So you understand how environment really transforms our life.

So I want to go into why focusing on our environment is so important and why it really, really matters Number one, your environment influences you. It influences your character. It influences your personality. It influences the friends who are in your life. It influences the type of work that you do. Your environment could literally dictate if you’re going to build a home-based business or not, right? Your environment influences the type of income that you earn. Your environment influences your health. There are so many different areas of your life that is influenced because of your environment. And so that is a reason why you want to become aware of what is your environment. Because once you have awareness, you have the ability to change it, right?

And so what is influenced inside of our environment? Number one when looking at how our environment changes us, it starts with our geography. Like, where are we born?  We don’t have control of that and when we’re born. Okay. But that does not mean that we can change it. You know, once you become aware, oh, like maybe you’re not happy with the city that you’re born inor the state that you live in like you can change that. It’s completely up to you. You, you actually have complete control of changing your environment if you choose to.  So number one is your geography. You know what city you grew up in, what schools you went to, what type of work you first started out in that environment influences you. It literally shapes you into the person that you are becoming, right?

And so what’s the second thing. The second thing inside of the environment that influences us is the people, you know, our family think about it. If you are born into a family where let’s say, for example, both of your parents are real estate agents. The likelihood of you becoming a real estate agent is very high because you’re born into it.  And so number one is you’re influenced by your family. And then growing up in elementary, middle school, high school, college, you’re influenced by your friends. And so consider your friends and their families that they grew up with, you know what did their parents do? How did they think? And so you’re influenced by your friends. You become like the five closest friends that you hang out with, right? And that’s part of your environment. And part of this also is your coworkers thinking about your first job, right? Think about the people who worked at your first job, who were they? Maybe you picked up some of their tendencies, their habits, maybe you started being influenced by some of their friends and vice versa, right? And so the people in our environment really influence who we become.

And the third thing I want to point out, and I think this is the most important part is the media. We’re born into an environment where there’s media everywhere. It wasn’t like this back in the day. But today with technology, it’s everywhere. This is exactly the kind of topic that we’re constantly talking about in our Facebook community, the home-based business community. It can be really hard to find a community of like-minded people who are working towards similar goals. If you want to join the conversation there, it’s absolutely free so head over to RyanAllenbell.com/community and click the join button. So what media influences us? Thinkabout it you have social media, that’s probably the biggest one nowadays you have the radio, you have TV, Netflix, you have certain books, you have the radio, you have video games, you have movies. All right just think of any type of media that’s out there, all the commercials, all the ads, all the billboard signs, all of that stuff. So the media really influences us.

So when it comes to environment, those are the three main factors that influence us is geography, people, and media, but how do they influence us? And I believe once we understand how we’re affected by our geography, people, and media, that empowers us to realize just how drastically it is affecting us. Because think about this. If you know, these three areas are affecting you in a negative way all you have to do is change those three areas so you could be affected in a positive way, right? So how do these areas affect us? They affect us at an unconscious level, and that’s how it works at a conscious level we’re able to make our own decisions, think the way we want to think but over time, as all of these different areas start influencing us, it bypasses our conscious filter and we accept it at an unconscious level. And what ends up happening is these things turn into beliefs. And what ends up happening over the years is it literally becomes all, you know.

And so if you’re born into poverty, that’s all, you know, if you’re born into the middle-class, that’s all you, know, if you’re born into wealth, that’s all, you know. And so our environment literally shapes us at an unconscious level that is what happens. And so how do we consume this? How do we allow what’s in our environment, change us at an unconscious level? Number one is what do we see? Start thinking about how can you change the things that you see, right? What do we hear? You know, that’s podcasting, for example, here’s the great thing about podcasting you could just pick a podcast that resonates with you. That’s going to improve the quality of your life and boom; automatically you’re transforming yourself at an unconscious level.

What you feel, think about it, at an emotional level some of the stuff that we consume in our environment makes us feel negative emotions, right? And over time that makes us make bad decisions, right? What’s another way it influences the way we think, think about that. Your environment literally makes you think a certain way. You might create limiting beliefs on yourself based on your environment. You might only be able to think so big because of your environment. Think about that. Your environment might be putting a lid on how big you can think. And you might not even realize it because you’re probably thinking only as big as the people in your life are thinking. Think about that and so if your environment is controlling, how you think it’s also controlling what you create in your life.

Because now if you have, let’s say a lid on how big you can think you don’t create bigger goals, you don’t strive for a better life you don’t aim to be a better person. So where should we go from here? What if you could change your environment? What would happen to your life if you change your environment? Imagine this we know we’re born into a certain type of geography with certain people in our life, with certain media that we’re consuming. What if you could change that starting today, this is what I invite you to do. Create a plan to start changing your environment. If you’re not happy with your zip code right now, get a pen and paper and really create a game plan to change your zip code. Think about, is my zip code, allowing me to reach my goals? Ask yourself that question, take a look at the people in your life, are the people in your life, serving you for the better good?

You have a choice if you want to keep them in your life or not, you could spend less time with certain people, or you could choose new people to spend more time with. I believe that’s the great thing about this podcast because I’m going to be bringing in people who are building successful. Home-based businesses that you can hang out with every single week those people are going to become part of your environment and slowly, it’s going to change you at an unconscious level. And it’s going to end up changing how you think, who you become and your results are going to start changing your life.

So what if you could change these areas? Just imagine the goals that you have right now maybe you don’t believe in them because of your environment, but if you change your environment, maybe you’ll start believing in your goals. So if you get anything from my message today, it’s number one, become aware of your environment. Number two understand if your environment is influencing you in a negative or a positive way. And number three, realize that you have the ability to take control of your environment and change it if you need to, or if you want to, so you can change your future. And the way I want to end is I want to end with another story. So I started with a story on how I was influenced by my environment. I pursued a normal career I realized I wasn’t aligned with that.

Someone introduced to me the ability to build a home-based business. And I got into this new environment and now take a look at this. I’m inside of this new environment.  I am learning from people who are building home-based businesses. I didn’t have access to those people prior so now I have new people in my life. And I’m learning what type of media to consume from these people as well. They’re telling me what types of books to read, what type of books to listen to, what type of videos to watch on YouTube, what type of seminars to go to what type of events to attend. And so all this new positive, successful media is coming into my life and it’s literally transforming me. It’s transforming my character. It’s transforming my personality. It’s transforming my beliefs. It’s transforming my goals. It’s transforming my future and it’s transforming who I am. And over time, what ended up happening, I was able to quit my job, I started earning more income in my home-based business, working part-time, than working full-time at my job.

And the only way that was possible is because I changed my environment. I changed the people and I changed the media. So I quit my job. That was five years ago and I’ve been building my home-based business full time for the last five years and take a look at this during that time period, I change zip codes as well. I moved, I started a family and now I created my own environment think about that. This is the goal; the goal is for you to create your own environment. I fell in love with the ability to build a home-based business. I transformed the people in my life. I changed the media I was consuming and I changed where I was living so I can create the life I wanted to create for myself and my family. So if you’re here right now, listening, and you realize that your environment is not serving you. All you have to do is just take one step today, another step tomorrow, and start changing your environment slowly but surely and that will completely transform your life.
