Yo, what’s up welcome back to the home-based business podcast. So today I want to dive deep into building a community and really why we would want to build a community, what it takes to build it, how to build it and what will happen to your life if you decide to build a community, to be a part of. The way I want to start this is I want to share a quick story with the first time that I got involved in a community. So, this goes back to before I was an entrepreneur, right? Because prior to being an entrepreneurship, I was not a part of any specific entrepreneurial communities. I didn’t even understand how to build communities or what was the purpose of being plugged into a community. And the first time I got invited to take a look at building home-based businesses, I got plugged into a community. The
first time this happened, it honestly was very overwhelming. Because for the very first time in my life, I was surrounded by people who were all going after their goals and their vision for their life.
And the reason I was overwhelmed because I was at a point in my life where I wasn’t going after my goals. And I didn’t even know what the vision for my life was. And so, I was taken back. I was like, wow, like these people are successful. These people know what they’re doing. They know where they’re going. And what this did was open a door to my success. For the first time ever, I’m surrounded by community of people who want so much more out of life. And once I realized these people were serious about the dreams, were serious about their goals and were serious about helping others reach their dreams and their goals. It really changed my perspective on how I viewed life in general. Because up to this point, I was just living my life day by day, just go with the flow, not really going in any direction and boom, all of a sudden, I’m surrounded by a community of people who all have one vision for their life, which is to achieve freedom in all areas of their life. And so, it really changed my perspective and it got me to reshape my thinking and the rest is history.
After that, I got plugged into this community, started learning from these people and started focusing on me and started focusing on my family and started focusing on how can I serve the world and how can I change my life.
Now I want to go into why building a community is so important. You might be in a position right now where you have two paths in front of you. Number one is you need to find a community to get plugged into. Maybe you don’t have that support system in your life, and you need it, right? So that might be path. Number one is like, Hey, how do I find a great community to plug into? Or number two, your other path could be like, Hey, I know where I’m at. I know where I’m going, and I need to create a community. And so that’s path number two. And why do you want to build a community? And really what it comes down to is building your network. We’ve all heard the quote; your network is your net worth. And that is so true. And I’ve experienced this. Literally the people who are in your network, you do business with. And so, what ends up happening once you establish yourself over a period of months and years, you become a credible source within your community and whatever product or service that you’re promoting. People will like you trust you and respect you enough to want to do business with you if it serves them and their goals. So that’s where we should start is Hey, building a community, builds our network.
There’s a great book out there by Harvey Mackay called dig your well before you’re thirsty. And he talks about building your network. You want to have a network of people in your life that you share your life with. And this doesn’t necessarily have to be for business. This could be any area of your life. If you develop a network of people in your life, you will always have someone to count on no matter what happens in your life.
So now that we know why we should build a community, which is to grow our network, what do you do within this network to actually build a community that is successful. And really what this comes down to is building relationships, so you can have more friends in your life. One of my mentors told me that the reason he is so successful is because he is out friended Everyone that he knows and pretty much what he told me is, I just make friends with as many people as possible, every single day of my life. And I keep those friendships for years and that is why I’m successful. And so that’s what you want to do within your community, within your network is you just want to cultivate relationships. You want to make friends. You want to find people who are like you.
Now when building friendships and building relationships, there are actually three categories to focus on. Number one, you want to develop relationships with people who are above you in terms of experience and professionalism and success. These are called your mentors. So, you want to find mentors, but in order to find a great mentor, you have to start at the relationship. You can’t just ask someone to be a mentor. No, you have to develop that relationship over time until you have some type of mutual respect and boom, then all of a sudden you can have a mentor. And the great thing about this is a lot of mentors, they want to help people.
Number two is you want to find people who are at the same level as you, you want to develop relationships who are pretty much exactly where you’re at. They have the same goals, similar goals. They’re either in a position where they want to replace their income or supplement their income. And the reason why you want to develop these relationships is so you could have accountability partners. And what happens is with accountability partners, you have someone to count on. Every single day, every week, every month, every year, you have people that you could build life with. And so, these are people that are in the same level as you.
Number three, you want to find people that you could coach. You want to find people who are below you in terms of their success, people that are still learning how to become successful. And the reason you want to do this is because you’re
putting out a helping hand and you’re guiding someone. Cause think about how you felt on your way to success. If you’re not there yet, think about how you feel right now and let’s say you do have mentors in your life. How do you feel that you have people in your life who want to help you succeed? And that’s why you want to find people and develop a relationship with people who are on their way to success, so you can help them get there. This is exactly the kind of topic that we’re constantly talking about in our Facebook community, the home-based business community.
It can be really hard to find a community of like-minded people who are working towards similar goals. If you want to join the conversation there, it’s absolutely free. So, head over to www.ryanallenbell.com/community and click the join button.
So once you start developing these relationships, once you start making friends, once you find people who are above you on the same level as you and below you, what do you do next? How do you grow these relationships? How do you build these friendships? And there’s two things to focus on. Number one is you want to be in service. I don’t know if you’ve ever been to an in-person networking event. And when you’re at an event like this, where you have people just shoving business cards to you, and they’re like, Hey, buy this, buy that blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. They’re just trying to sell you the whole time. That is not being in service. What they’re doing is they’re taking. So that’s the complete opposite of what you want to do. And so, in order to grow amazing relationships and amazing friendships, you want to be in service. And what that means is you want to give, you want to give your time, your energy, your money. You want to listen. That’s number two. You want to listen to these people. You want to hear what they have to say. God created as two ears, one mouth. So, we should be listening twice as much as we’re talking, figuring out what are their pain points? What do they want out of life? Where are they? Yeah. Where are they going? And once you figure that information out, boom, you could either serve them yourself if you have a product or service that can help them, or as you grow your network and build a community, you could link people to them. You can refer them out as a Hey, I don’t think I could help you, but I know someone who can help you out. And that’s how you build a powerful community. That’s how you build a powerful network is by being in service and give.
One of my mentors explained to me how success works. And this is actually one of the few billionaires that I know. And this is what he told me. He was like, you want to give, you want to give, you want to give, you want to give, you want to
give, you want to give, you want to give, and then you receive and then you want to give, and then you want to give, and then you want to give, and then you want to give, and then you receive and then you give and then receive and then give and then receive and then receive and then give and then give and then receive and receive and receive and receive. Do you guys get the picture? We are not taking; we are not taking what we’re doing is we’re giving and receiving. That is how success works. And so, in order to receive though, we have to give. And if you notice the representation that I just gave you, I was giving so much at the beginning before I received once. And that’s what one of my mentors told me, he’s a billionaire. He says, no, you just want to give until you start receiving. And that is how success works. And so that’s how you’re going to cultivate a community. That’s how you’re going to cultivate a network. That’s how you’re going to have people in your life who become friends for the rest of your life. That’s how you’re going to have people that you could count on every single year of your life is by being in service to the people that you meet in your life.
So, what if you’re able to develop a community or get involved in the community that can completely transform your life forever. Think about it. Take a second right now and imagine. What will it do for you to get involved in a community where there’s people who are above you, that you can look up to as mentors, where there’s people who are on the same level as you, that you could pretty much grind with every single day and work towards your goals and people who are below you. So, you could reach out and help them achieve the success that they want as well.
What will that do for you in terms of your success, in terms of your relationships, in terms of your happiness, in terms of your mental mindset, in terms of every single area of your life, think of a community as a macro representation of you. Right now, you are a micro representation. You know where you’re at, you know where you’re going. You have goals, you have pain points in your life. Most of us want freedom. Think of a community as just a bigger version of that. It’s people who are all going in the same direction, all on the same path, all have the same pain points, all have the same dreams. The only difference is that everyone there is doing it together. You do not have to go after success by yourself. You can go after success with others and enjoy the ride there every single day.
So, what if you did get involved in the community or what if you did create your own community, just imagine how your life would change from doing that. And what I invite you to do, if you’re not a part of a community yet is to go find communities to plug into, find ones that resonate with you and where you’re at and
where you’re going. And if you can’t find one that resonates with you, create one, create one yourself.
Now before I end, I want to share a quick story on what a community has done for me and my life. Like I said at the beginning, I got involved in the community and it completely changed my whole entire perspective of life and success. I’ve been plugged into that community for the last seven years. And through this experience, it’s completely transformed every aspect of my life. I’ve literally have met hundreds and hundreds of people over the last seven years, who all are on the same path as me, which is to achieve true freedom in my life and to help others achieve true freedom.
Now, just imagine what that can do for you if you’re able to do the same thing, it just lights you up. It empowers you; it emboldens you. And that’s what it did for me as well. I’ve been part of this community for the last seven years, and we’re all achieving our goals together. We’re all enjoying life together. We’re all building our own communities together based off a certain values and interests. And through this community, I’ve made the best friends I could ever ask for in my life. Just to give you an example, six out of my seven groomsmen, I met through this community. I met through the community that I was a part of for the last seven years.
So, if you get anything from what I’ve shared with you today is to realize the importance of being involved in the community. Whether it’s one that you find yourself or one that you develop yourself, at least be a part of a community. Because if you find a community that you align with and that you plug into consistently, it will start changing your life. And five years from now, 10 years from now, your life will be completely different. So now go find your community.
